News from the PTO

From the Co-Presidents

We hope the first week went smoothly and that our Kindergarten and new-to-Stratton families are feeling the love of our wonderful community. It was great to meet so many of you at the Welcome Back Coffee. A lot happens in the first weeks of school so pace yourselves and reach out to faculty, a neighbor, or a PTO member whenever you have questions. Watch this newsletter, the website, flyers and bulletin-board announcements for much of what you need.

Reminder: If you have not already, please send your child’s Stay Sharp summer reading book back to class. These are wonderful classroom assets, one of the many curriculum enhancement activities funded by the PTO.

The PTO was busy this summer – thanks to so many people who helped us get off to a great new start!

The PTO funds scholarships for any family needing assistance with this back-to-school expense. Please check the “Scholarship” box on the supplies form that came home in the August mailing and return to your teacher.

From the Principal

Dear Stratton Community:

As we start a new year, we are finding more opportunities for students to demonstrate PRIDE in our new building.  All students will enter the school in small groups with adult supervision along the way. 5th grade students will have different leadership positions starting this year.  For example, instead of directing one class at a time entering, 5th grade will be at points along the route to coach and encourage their younger classmates.  Also, students will take turns helping to clean up after lunch (with jobs assigned appropriately to respond to any food safety concerns, of course).  A picture is below of one of our first clean up workers, Owen and Cole Morgan-Zawilski.  We know that the more students own the quality of the school environment, the more effective of a learning community we become.

Annually the Stratton PTO funds about $50,000 worth of community building, enrichment activities, and curriculum enhancement for our students. We cannot provide these ongoing programs without your support. Watch this newsletter over the coming months for important announcements related to our annual drive and other planned fundraisers. Can’t wait to help? Here are three immediate and easy ways to get started now:

1.    Register your Stop & Shop card for the A+ Rewards Program and select Stratton (# 08591) as your school. The sooner you register your card the more rewards we will earn. Ask friends and family to register too. Register here:

2.    Start your Amazon shopping at the Stratton PTO website and click on the Amazon link. It does not cost you anything and Stratton receives a percentage of your purchase (at no cost to you). (Note – for the PTO to earn a percentage you must use the Stratton link and place items in your cart after following the link.)

3.    Collect your Box Tops and drop them off in the collection box inside the front entrance.

Are you or your Stratton student involved in something interesting in the community that you would like to share? Are you on an adult softball team looking for players? Is your Stratton student performing or competing in something? Does your Stratton student need to be recognized for doing something interesting out in the world? Please share with us.
